CIPD Urges UK Government to Prioritize Skilled, Fair, and Healthy Work in New Workforce Strategy

CIPD, the professional body for HR and people development, is urging the UK government to prioritize skilled, fair, and healthy work in a new workforce strategy. In its ‘Manifesto for Good Work’, CIPD outlines the necessary public policy changes to address challenges such as stagnant productivity, skills shortages, and an aging workforce. The manifesto emphasizes the need for a joined-up workforce strategy centered around three core themes: Skilled work, Healthy work, and Fair work. This strategy should also support the country’s transition to a net-zero economy. CIPD calls for a package of public policy reforms across areas such as skills, innovation, business support, digital adoption, immigration, and labor market enforcement to bolster this workforce strategy. CEO of CIPD, Peter Cheese, highlights the importance of a long-term vision for economic growth to improve job quality, productivity, and innovation across all sectors. He also stresses the need for labor market reforms to protect workers’ rights and well-being and promote flexible and inclusive working practices.
