China-Northeast Asia Expo Showcases High-Tech Achievements and Sparks International Cooperation
A plethora of high-tech achievements and cutting-edge products recently took center stage at the 14th China-Northeast Asia Expo held in Changchun, the capital of Jilin province. The event attracted the attention of numerous companies from Japan and the Republic of Korea, signifying the growing interest in China’s technological advancements. Over the course of five days, a total of 99 projects were signed, marking a record-breaking level of project investments.
The investment ventures encompassed various sectors including new energy, modern agriculture, equipment manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and modern services. Lyu Haiqiang, the deputy director of the executive committee of the expo, highlighted that this influx of projects sets a new benchmark in terms of scale and reinforces the significance of international cooperation.
Compared to their Japanese counterparts, Chinese scientists are celebrated for their youthful vigor, which bolsters China’s rapid development in science and technology. Haruko Yoneyama, senior adviser to the Japan Science and Technology Agency, praised the energy and potential exhibited by Chinese scientists. She expressed optimism about China’s scientific and technological development, particularly in fields like artificial intelligence and big data.
International companies have also recognized the prospects offered by Jilin province’s high-tech advancements. Toshio Shinoda, regional CEO for the China unit of Marubeni Corp, reported that Marubeni has expanded its business operations in Jilin. With a focus on areas like water purification and real estate, Marubeni has now broadened its cooperation with China to include agricultural products, food, and smart agriculture. Shinoda expressed interest in collaborating with Chinese enterprises in the areas of new energy and carbon neutrality, given Jilin’s abundance of renewable energy sources like wind and solar power.
Lee Sung-ho, head of the Changchun office of the ROK Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, also emphasized the importance of Jilin province’s development plans. With a focus on cultivating emerging industries, especially in the field of new energy vehicles, local automakers are collaborating globally and investing in research and development. The ROK government is heavily investing in the development of the new energy vehicle industry, opening up opportunities for cooperation between China and the ROK in this field.
These exchanges and collaborations in high-tech fields between China, Japan, and the ROK serve as a driving force for friendly competition while also fostering new avenues of cooperation. Jeon Yong-gi of the Minjoo Party highlighted the close geographical proximity and economic ties between the ROK and China. The youth of both countries desire more opportunities for exchanges and aspire to contribute to peace in Northeast Asia and the economic development of both nations.
The China-Northeast Asia Expo, themed Joint Development of Northeast Asia in Cooperation for the Future, witnessed the offline participation of over 20,000 merchants from 123 countries and regions. Since its inception in 2005, the expo has had 14 editions and has facilitated the signing of over 3,000 cooperation projects, with a total investment value exceeding 2 trillion yuan ($274.3 billion).
The expo not only highlights China’s technological achievements but also showcases the commitment to international cooperation and exchange. The diverse range of high-tech projects signed during the expo demonstrates China’s willingness to collaborate and its growing influence in the global technological landscape. With the steady progress in science and technology, China’s emergence as a global leader in innovation seems poised to continue, bringing about even greater international cooperation in the future.
