China and Pakistan have taken a significant step towards enhancing innovation and cooperation by establishing the China-South Asia Technology Transfer Center-Sub Center in Pakistan. The two nations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to solidify their commitment to bilateral technology transfer.
The Sub Center will play a crucial role in strengthening technology transfer between China and Pakistan, fostering collaboration among enterprises, research institutes, and universities. Moreover, it aims to support cooperation in science, technology, and innovation (STI) for sustainable development under the Belt and Road Initiative.
During the 3rd China-Pakistan technology transfer matchmaking workshop, Pakistani Ambassador to China, Moinul Haque, emphasized the importance of STI cooperation in various sectors. These include information technology, emerging technologies, advanced materials, green transportation, renewable energy, digital economy, smart cities, minerals and natural resources, biotechnology, and modern agriculture.
Haque noted the inclusion of STI in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a significant step towards high-quality and sustainable development of the project. In line with this, Pakistan has established the Special Technology Zones Authority to create a knowledge ecosystem that fosters entrepreneurship, innovation, and technological advancement.
Expressing his hope for fruitful discussions and interaction during the B2B matchmaking, the ambassador encouraged the parties to propose a clear roadmap for cooperation in technology transfer within priority areas.
Haque further highlighted his extensive visits to over 40 Chinese cities and headquarters of more than 100 companies. He observed the remarkable emphasis placed on research and development in these locations. China’s global leadership in cutting-edge technologies such as high-speed rail networks, electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, solar technology, data storage, and e-commerce serves as a testament to its unwavering dedication to improving people’s lives and raising living standards.
Khan Muhammad Wazir, the Science and Technology Counsellor at the Pakistani Embassy in Beijing, emphasized that the newly signed MOU will facilitate connecting the private sector, government R&D centers, and universities of China and Pakistan. This connection will pave the way for technology transfers and enhanced cooperation in STI.
The announcement of the technology transfer matchmaking workshop, held alongside the 7th China-South Asia Expo in Kunming, Southwest China’s Yunnan province, aligned with the theme of Connecting STI Resources to Empower High-Quality Development of CPEC.
By establishing the China-South Asia Technology Transfer Center-Sub Center and promoting collaboration in various sectors, China and Pakistan are taking concrete steps towards stimulating innovation and cooperation. This partnership will not only benefit both nations but also contribute to regional development and ensure a sustainable future.
