China has recently taken the initiative to launch a new language model (LLM) to compete with ChatGPT, an AI-based chatbot. This was in response to Baidu co-founder and CEO Robin Li’s recognition of the potential threat that this chatbot could pose to China’s AI sector.
Robin Li led the effort and his Chief Technology Officer Wang Haifeng was responsible for its execution. As a result, Baidu became the first of China’s tech giants to launch a GPT-challenger with an impressive 175 billion parameters. Leveraging AI knowledge accumulated over a decade, Baidu’s development team successfully achieved their goal.
