The University of Chester is gearing up for its first-ever Festival of Ideas, set to take place from July 4 to July 7 in and around Chester. The event promises to be an inclusive and diverse four-day extravaganza, featuring nearly 100 free events that are open to the public.
Baroness Floella Benjamin, actress, presenter, broadcaster, and writer, is among the notable guests who will be delivering free public talks at the festival. Katherine Wilson, associate professor at the University of Chester, is spearheading the preparations for the festival and is excited about the wide range of topics that will be covered, from animal psychology to tips on upcycling.
A variety of activities are scheduled to be held during the Festival of Ideas, including discussion panels, theatre performances, pop-up exhibitions, interactive sessions, music, readings, guided walks, and more. Renowned figures like historian David Olusoga and journalist Carole Cadwalladr, who exposed the Cambridge Analytica scandal, will be sharing their insights on different subjects.
The festival will be spread across various venues in Chester, with the Chester Town Hall serving as the primary hub. From educational sessions at the Chester Cathedral to family-friendly activities at the Grosvenor Museum, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
Councillor Lisa Denson of Cheshire West and Chester Council expressed her excitement about the festival, which aims to celebrate the rich history and heritage of Chester. The council is joining hands with the University to welcome visitors and make the event a grand success.
