Cheering for Joe Biden – A Conservative Perspective on ChatGPT’s Support

Date:

Recent research from the Media Research Center’s Free Speech America organization found that an AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, called ChatGPT, exhibited blatant left-wing bias in its responses to questions about the upcoming 2024 US presidential election. MRC Free Speech America researchers found that ChatGPT provided inaccurate and misleading information about Donald Trump and praised Biden as dedicated to a “more united and prosperous America” – even ignoring any of the controversies surrounding the president.

Dan Schneider, MRC Free Speech America and MRC Business Vice President, has expressed his concern that AI chatbots can be used to advance political agendas. “Artificial intelligence is the greatest tool the left has ever had to implement their political goals and their policy agenda,” Schneider said. He further specified Larry Page, who was former Google CEO, and senior tech executives have made it clear that they want AI to become a new “god” that passes values and truth onto humans.

When prompted with the words “Trump” and “Biden” respectively, the chatbot responded quite differently, painting Trump in a negative light explaining how he was involved in “several high-profile investigations.” On the other hand, it depicted Biden as a hero overcoming “challenges” that brings “a more united and prosperous America.” Prompted with the words “political agenda”, ChatGPT responded “No, I do not have a political agenda”, further strengthening the suspicions of its hidden biases.

Michael Morris, MRC Free Speech America & MRC Business Director, also weighed in on the issue, saying that OpenAI’s AI chatbot displays a constant and visible bias to left-wing ideals. He specified the answer given by ChatGPT to the word “Biden,” which highlighted his policy initiatives, like fighting the pandemic, climate change, and overhauling infrastructure, in addition to reversing Donald Trump’s immigration and foreign policies.

A study from Social Sciences journal indicated that ChatGPT is also pro-choice and favors government funding for Planned Parenthood, which it suggests should come from local police funding. It calls for tax increases among the wealthy, free college for all, subsidized healthcare for illegal immigrants, in-state tuition at public colleges and the right to vote for convicted criminals.

OpenAI is an AI research laboratory based in San Francisco, California that conducts important research in artificial intelligence concerning safety, ethics and fairness. It has recently been criticized for its development of ChatGPT, an AI chatbot that openly expresses its left-wing bias. It is important to ensure the AI industry is held accountable, and that transparency and an equal footing for all political beliefs is maintained.
