Voters in Brighton and Hove will head to the ballot box next week to select the 54 councillors that will lead the city for the next four years. In order to get a better insight as to who might come out on top, ChatGPT, an AI model, was asked to provide a prediction of the election’s result.
Based on “previous local election results and the current political climate,” ChatGPT predicted that the Labour party will be the majority party on the city council, but will fall short of the 28 seats needed for an overall majority. The AI model predicted that Labour will win 24 seats, a gain of 8 from their current standing, but still four seats short of an absolute majority. The Green Party will allegedly stay the same with 20 seats, while the Conservatives were predicted to witness a decrease from 11 seats to 8 seats. The AI forecast suggested that two independents will also be elected to the city council.
At the moment, the Green Party is the largest party on the council with 20 seats, while Labour and the Conservatives have 16 and 11 seats respectively. The Brighton and Hove Independents currently hold one seat, with six other independent councillors.
Unlike past years, voters will be required to bring a form of photo ID (passport, driving license or provisional driving license issued by the UK or an EU country, a Blue Badge, an Older Person’s Bus Pass, or a PASS card) which must be shown when casting their ballot at a polling station on May 4. Polling stations open at 7am next Thursday and close at 10pm, with the results being announced by the following day.
