ChatGPT to be Available in Select Mercedes-Benz Cars

Luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will be integrating OpenAI’s ChatGPT into the voice control of some of its vehicles. The move is aimed at improving the natural flow of conversations and will see AI chatbots introduced into the multimedia infotainment systems of selected Mercedes models. ChatGPT will be integrated into the companies car systems through Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI service. An optional beta will be released on June 16 and will be available for vehicles equipped with the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX). The beta will be available for over 900,000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles, such as the Mercedes-Benz X 294, and is expected to last for three months, according to the company. The chatbots will enable drivers to have hands-free conversations that enable them to focus their attention on driving, with the AI capable of accessing information found in the owner’s manual or integrating schedules from a calendar into the car system. Mercedes-Benz joins General Motors in exploring the feasibility of introducing AI chatbot technology into its vehicles.
