Mercedes-Benz is testing the ChatGPT AI chatbot in its cars, with plans to integrate it into the MBUX infotainment system. Some drivers in the US will be able to use OpenAI’s ChatGPT in a test programme from June 16, where the chatbot will be downloaded over the air after drivers opt in via a voice command or app. Mercedes will study the chatbot’s effect on the driving experience and how drivers use it during the three-month programme. ChatGPT will offer more lifelike conversations and a wider range of information from which to respond than current voice-command in-car features. General Motors has also expressed interest in using ChatGPT in its cars in collaboration with Microsoft.
