The team of all time: We asked ChatGPT to decide and here’s what it said. In wake of ChatGPT’s sudden rise in fame, we wanted to see which XI the AI would pick to form the greatest team of all time. Everyone’s opinions on this are different, and will be shaped by their personal footballing experiences. But what does the robot think?
Starting between the sticks is the only goalkeeper to ever win the Ballon d’Or – the Black Spider, Lev Yashin. While modern options like Manuel Neuer, Gigi Buffon or even Iker Casillas could have been considered, ChatGPT opted for the timeless classic.
At right-back we have Cafu, the Brazilian engine-room who graced three World Cup finals in a row and took home two World Cup winners medals. The legendary Philipp Lahm may have pushed him close but there was still plenty of nostalgia, vibes and glory to choose Cafu in that spot.
Franco Baresi was chosen by ChatGPT as the archetypal centre-back. Having been an integral part of AC Milan’s golden years, his resume speaks for itself. There may be those that are better today, but there’s none more historic in this position.
A defensive partner to Baresi was of course the brilliant Franz Beckenbauer, a German legend widely regarded as the greatest of all time. Bobby Moore may have been the English counterpart, but there was never a chance of keeping Der Kaiser out.
At left-back, ChatGPT went with the legendary Paolo Maldini. Resting heavily on his magnificent career as a left-back before moving into the center, Maldini was a rock for club and country over the decades. Roberto Carlos and Ashley Cole were nowhere near selection.
The defensive midfield role was given to another German – the evergreen Lothar Matthaus. He holds the record for most World Cup games ever, and a resume unmatched by anyone else. It’s probably a nod to a defensively-minded formation by ChatGPT, as more attack-minded faces like Garth Crooks’ have been left out.
The solution was the passing wizard Xavi, the linchpin in Barcelona’s golden years and one of the most highly acclaimed footballers ever. He slips in ahead of the great Andres Iniesta and a litany of other attacking midfielders.
At the tip of a midfield triangle was the iconic Zinedine Zidane in the most hotly contested spot of all. ChatGPT opted for his skill and flair in the big moments over Diego Maradona, who may have made a 4-2-3-1 tricky.
The right wing was a given – Lionel Messi is the greatest still playing in the top five leagues and is the only person to get a pick. To the left of him is Cristiano Ronaldo, widely considered to be one of the greatest of all time and one of the most famous names in football.
And off the bench from this GOAT XI steps the undisputed greatest of all – Pele. He gets the nod up front ahead of footballing giants like Eusebio, Marco Van Basten, Alfredo Di Stefano, Ronaldo and even Danny Welbeck – ChatGPT has no doubt in their answer.
ChatGPT is an AI model taking the internet by storm, with its ability to craft great XIs. However, it’s important to remember that the greatest team of all time is subjective – and the answer to this query highly depends on factors such as age and location. Nonetheless, it’s always fascinating to see what the robot thinks.
ChatGPT is an AI which helps people to navigate and make decisions on the internet. It makes use of advanced machine learning algorithms and deep learning to process data, helping users to get the most out of their time online, while cutting through the noise. It also provides helpful advice on sports and entertainment such as forming an all-time greatest XI, as it has impressive amounts of knowledge related to the same.
