On Wednesday, Snap, the parent company of Snapchat, announced that it is now offering a customized AI chatbot called My AI to all users. The chatbot is powered by the popular AI, ChatGPT and prior to this, was only available to Snapchat+ subscribers. My AI is designed to offer advice, answer questions, and help users plan. It can also produce a haiku within seconds and through “@MyAI” users can even introduce the chatbot in a conversation with their friends.
The introduction of this customized AI follows the move by Open AI, the maker of ChatGPT, who allowed access to third party firms to use its chatbot. Other such firms include Instacart and the tutor software Quizlet. After its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT surprised many users with its capabilities, bringing to light its functionalities like creating articles, novels and song lyrics. Tech companies soon hastened to follow its lead and consequently built and implemented AI technologies similar to this in their products.
However, the use of ChatGPT may lead to some concerns. As the tool is trained on immense amounts of data on the web, it may propagate incorrect information or material which people may find offensive. To counter this, Snap said in a blog post that My AI does not meet their 100% standards but is improving. To further prevent any such issues, AI moderation technology is being introduced and has been included in its in-app parental tools.
Evidently, it is quite evident from the services My AI and ChatGPT offer that AI chatbots can be beneficial for many reasons. This is why so many companies prioritized the build their own AI-based chatbot to offer services across their apps. Despite the concerns that arise from it, AI will take up greater roles in our lives and provide us with more interesting experiences.
