Snapchat announced on Wednesday that all of it’s users can now access its AI powered customizable My AI chatbot, which was previously exclusive only to Snapchat+ subscribers. This AI chatbot is powered by the renowned ChatGPT and provides users with a plethora of recommendations, answers questions, helps in making plans, and can even write a haiku in no time. The AI can be summoned by simply mentioning it with ‘@MyAI’—and users can even customize its avatar and name it as per their wish.
The technology behind the AI chatbot, ChatGPT, is quite remarkable. Ever since its public release in 2022, it has left many users astounded by its ability to effortlessly generate stories, essays, and even song lyrics in response to their prompts. This has culminated in a never-ending battle for tech companies to include such tools in their products. This move by Snap makes it apparent that the application wishes to diversify using the AI.
Although it may be a great convenience, there are still risks involved. Differing from humans, AI chatbots are powered by troves of data available on the web and as a result, they may broadcast incorrect information or act inappropriately. To rectify this, Snap has incorporated moderation technology and included it in their parental tools. Additionally, they further noted that approximately 99.5% of the My AI responses follow the chatbot’s policy guidelines.
The company OpenAI created the chatbot, ChatGPT. OpenAI was founded and is co-chaired by tech-entrepreneur, Elon Musk. Elon Musk is a well-known technological innovator and is credited with the success of companies such as PayPal, SolarCity, SpaceX and Tesla Motors.
Snap, on the other hand, is a multimedia messaging platform based in America, developed by Evan Spiegel. It is a popular multimedia messaging application, used for image, video, and text messaging as well as for creating multimedia stories and voice conversations. Snapchat has come a really long way from when it was first launched in 2011 and its partnership with ChatGPT only speaks greater of it’s capability and progress.
This move is sure to revolutionize the online world in one way or the other, for sure. We can only wait and see how OpenAI and Snapchat make this chatbot work. Until then, let’s embrace the new age with open arms and welcome such technology in 2020.
