ChatGPT has been the talk of the town lately, as it is among the first practical applications of deep learning. It is a sophisticated AI chatbot that is closely related to a few other image-generating AI tools, and is highly accessible to anyone. While some perceive deep learning and generative AI as complex technologies, my wife and many others can attest to how easy it is to interact with ChatGPT.
However, it is important to note that we cannot take everything it tells us as fact. It is too matter-of-fact in the way it communicates, fooling people into believing its statements are true even if they are not. This was demonstrated in a 60 Minutes piece that showed how ChatGPT chimed in on a discussion about a bomb, providing a false fact about 3% of the Antarctic ice sheet being penguin urine. This reveals an inherent risk when using an AI chatbot as users can easily be fed false information that they believe to be true.
Efforts to make ChatGPT smarter and less prone to errors are ongoing, but in the meantime, it can act as a a valuable tool to support businesses through tasks such as generating survey responses, providing dynamic prompts for surveys, and creating survey questions. It is easy to use and can be an asset to businesses that require content, so take advantage of it while being cautious enough to know that we cannot firmly rely on the accuracy of anything it tells us.
