We Had ChatGPT Write 10 Alternate Endings to Game of Thrones – and the Backlash Would Have Been Wild!
Four years have passed since the riveting and much talked-about ending of Game of Thrones. While the debate around the controversial conclusion of the hit show is quieter now that folks have moved on to the prequel show House of the Dragon, one can’t help but wonder: could a different ending have appeased the fans? To find out, we data mined the power of AI Chatbot ChatGPT to craft a variety of alternate endings for Game of Thrones based on different prompts. Would these new endings have received a warmer response?
We asked ChatGPT to write a new ending for the show that would please as many fans as possible. The bot created a satisfactory conclusion where the survivors held a council to democratically elect a new leader. This ruler chose to make amends for the past and established laws and policies to protect the rights of citizens, so that the Seven Kingdoms could finally come together united in a new era of peace and prosperity.
Other prompts were less serious. For instance, we asked ChatGPT to create an ending with a happy ending where Arya Stark found a cure to the White Walkers and they all flew off willy-nilly, hand in hand, into the horizon. Or the one where Tyrion Lannister ran away to become a pirate king, sailing the seas and counting his ill-gotten gains. While some of ChatGPT’s ideas were pretty cheeky, they all offered viable alternate endings that provided a certain level of closure, while still honoring the characters and the plot.
Had the series had ended with any of these alternate endings, it wouldn’t have been surprising to find fans more content than the original resolution. We can only imagine how a more satisfactory ending would have changed the Game of Thrones legacy.
