Since its launch in November 2020, the Open AI developed ChatGPT technology has surpassed expectations of what chatbots can do. In a study published in the American Accounting Association journal, they examined ChatGPT’s capability by testing it with accounting paperwork. Although this AI bot earned an impressive score of 47.7%, it was still lower than the average of the student performance which was 76.7 percent.
The application of this machine learning system was tested in particular with tax, audit, manager, and financial evaluation. For the topics of accounting data systems and auditing, ChatGPT even slightly surpassed the student average with a score of 11.3%. Despite these promising results, the AI was not successful in computing mathematics-oriented duties, proving to be a constraint for tasks such as short-answer query.
When the study was released David Wood, a professor at Brigham Young University, was concerned that with this tool a student might cheat. Furthermore, he believes that this technology can be used to improve the instruction and learning methods of the students.

In less than five years the firm has achieved some major advancements in the areas of natural language processing and computer vision, among other A.I.-related areas. David Wood, a professor at Brigham Young University, is the author of the study. He has been at the forefront of innovation for the A.I. program ChatGPT and is personally determined to use it for improving the learning process for students and faculty used in education.
