The Personal Information Protection Commission said OpenAI should collect only limited amounts of sensitive data for machine learning. If the company ignores these warnings, the regulator may take additional action. Japan accounts for a large portion of OpenAI’s website traffic, and the company’s CEO met with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida ahead of the G7 meeting where Kishida initiated a discussion on AI regulation. Many regulators around the world are laying the groundwork for AI regulations. The US has even announced a National Standards Strategy for Critical and Emerging Technology, which includes a portion on AI.
