Chatbot ChatGPT, powered by artificial intelligence, has been put to the test by a journalist from The Daily Drive. Despite a disclaimer stating that the system is not intended to give advice, the journalist tried it out with various questions. When asked if a bicycle could fit into a Subaru Crosstrek without removing the front tire, ChatGPT replied that it may be difficult. However, the journalist knew it was possible and found that there were always variations and caveats to consider. They asked about the 2024 model, but ChatGPT replied that it couldn’t access future details.
The journalist also asked how many new vehicles were sold in the US in 2022 with manual transmissions but found that ChatGPT was only trained up until September 2021. The chatbot suggested checking with the National Auto Dealers Association or the Bureau of Economic Analysis. When asked about the number of cases of beer that could be transported in a 2023 Porsche 718 Cayman, ChatGPT estimated the number to be 7.33, but also reminded the user about safety and legality concerns.
While the results were mixed, the journalist found that ChatGPT was a useful tool for getting general information or a starting point for research. However, it was also important to keep in mind that the system may generate incorrect or misleading information, and that it is not intended to give advice.
