ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence tool created by OpenAI in 2022, has become hugely popular for its ability to answer followup questions, admit to mistakes, and challenge incorrect premises. Recently, it was asked to name the greatest XI in the history of the Premier League – and it did not disappoint.
The model’s line-up was made up of Peter Schmeichel in goal, Gary Neville, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, and Ashley Cole in defence, Patrick Vieira at defensive midfield, Paul Scholes and Steven Gerrard in the attacking midfield positions, and Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer, and Cristiano Ronaldo up front. ChatGPT justified its selection by noting that this team had “the right balance of attacking flair and defensive solidity, and they would be a tough opponent for any team to face”.
