ChatGPT Creator Sam Altman Warns AI Will Eliminate Jobs in India

Date:

Sam Altman, creator of ChatGPT and CEO of OpenAI, has acknowledged the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) taking over human jobs. However, he believes that new job opportunities will also arise in this field. Altman is currently in India, where he will be meeting with government officials and discussing AI’s future. In an interview with the Economic Times, Altman stated, “Every tech revolution leads to job change. In two generations, we can adapt to any amount of labour market change and there are new jobs and they are usually better. That is going to happen here, too. Some jobs are going to go away. There will be new, better jobs that are difficult to imagine today.”

Recently, Altman spoke to US lawmakers about regulating AI. He stated that OpenAI will happily cooperate with the government to regulate AI. However, Altman believes that only big players in the market should be regulated, not smaller companies. “We have explicitly said there should be no regulation on smaller companies. The only regulation we have called for is on ourselves and people bigger, he said.

During his visit, Altman is expected to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to a Moneycontrol report, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar has stated that while Altman has ideas about the regulation of AI, India has its own views on the matter. If there is eventually a United Nations of AI – as Sam Altman wants – more power to it. But that does not stop us from doing what is right for our digital nagriks (citizens) and keeping the internet safe and trusted, Chandrasekhar said.
