Microsoft has recently unveiled plans to integrate its cloud-based Office 365 software suite with ChatGPT and Copilot, but so far there has been no news of the AI technology coming to Windows itself. Now, Windows users may be able to take advantage of the breakthrough GPT-3 technology as engineer Simone Franco is given the green light to develop a ChatGPT plugin for Microsoft’s Powertoys.
Powertoys, a relic of the nineties, was brought to Windows 10, and can now be used with the AI. To activate the plugin, users will just have to type “??”, which will allow access to functions such as a screen ruler and completing simple calculations like converting units and executing system commands.
Through the official Github project page, there is further insight into the features. Using the AI, users will be able to ask for help with a variety of tasks. For instance, a user can inquire of Powertoys for help with something they can’t read, and the AI could suggest a screen ruler.
While the AI won’t be available to everyone as Powertoys is specialized, Microsoft is prioritizing a different approach for Office 365, Teams, and Bing. It’s still exciting to get an idea of what Windows integration with the AI technology would look like though. Fans of Apple products launched in the MacGPT browser, a feature with a striking resemblance to Safari, although still limited.
Microsoft is no stranger to the technological advancement. Founded in 1975, the company has been leading the way in computing with its focus on artificial intelligence and machine learning over the past three decades. The company has seen many successes through the years, especially thanks to their popular software and hardware products.
Simone Franco is no novice either. A software engineer with a proven track record in the industry, her work on the Microsoft ChatGPT plugin will be looked forward to by many. Her prior projects have included crafting easy-to-use computer programs and developing automated systems to improve customer experience, making her an ideal candidate for the task.
