ChatGPT, the natural language generation AI from OpenAI, is now available on iOS devices in the United States. There’s no version for Android yet, but the company said it will be available in other countries soon.
Since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT has become popular amongst multiple businesses. For example, General Motors, Discord, and Zillow have all partnered with ChatGPT to implement its features into their services. The AI has also been receiving attention from companies like Google for its data, although some find this to be questionable.
ChatGPT has been surrounded by controversy in its short lifespan. A YouTuber was able to generate valid Windows product keys and there was a bug which exposed some users’s chat titles. In April, Canada’s Privacy Commissioner opened an investigation into OpenAI for the alleged collecting, using, and disclosing of personal information without consent.
While previously, users could only find apps that were pretending to be ChatGPT or the Microsoft Bing app that used its imitation of the GPT-4 chatbot, ChatGPT is now released as a free app for iOS devices. The app syncs conversations, and includes OpenAI’s Whisper speech recognition software, allowing users to speak out their commands.
OpenAI’s mission with this app is to make AI advancements more accessible to everyday people and help them in their daily lives. To integrate the innovative research into an intuitive tool and continue to make it more available and convenient.
