In recent news, ChatGPT, an OpenAI product, has been in the spotlight for suspending large number of accounts, especially in Asia, for unknown reasons. This was reported by Chinese tech media outlet 36Kr. The reports show that accounts using Chinese dialog are particularly susceptible to being blocked. Following the reports, Chinese netizens have warned each other to stay clear of logging into the ChatGPT for fear of being affected. OpenAI has yet to comment on the issue.
ChatGPT hasn’t been officially launched in China but sellers from various e-commerce platforms were found to be selling registrations for these accounts, generating huge sales volume. Experts suggest that it could be due to batch account registration, API or application programming interface abuse and technical problems which have arisen due to excess traffic. This has caused further discomfort to Chinese users.
In the meantime, Italy has temporarily banned the use of ChatGPT; and Samsung has accused the AI chatbot of leaking its data. However, neither of these claims have been proven yet.
