New Delhi: Great news for central government employees and pensioners as the union government has announced revisions to important allowances under the 7th Pay Commission. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) released an Office Memorandum (OM) on April 2, 2024, detailing the revisions made. Here’s a breakdown of the key changes:
– Child Education Allowance has been updated to 25 percent of the allowance once the employee’s DA reaches 50 percent. The maximum allowance for Child Education/Hostel Subsidy now applies to two children, with a hostel subsidy set at Rs 6,750 per month. In the case of disabled children, the allowance is doubled.
– The Risk Allowance for employees engaged in hazardous duties has been revised to address health risks associated with specific job roles. This allowance is separate from the regular pay of the employee.
– The Night Duty Allowance (NDA) has been revised based on the basic pay and dearness allowance rates specified by the 7th Pay Commission. Employees eligible for NDA must have a basic salary of Rs 43,600 per month.
– Special Allowance for Parliament Assistants engaged in Parliament duties during its sessions has been increased by 50 percent. The revised rates apply for each calendar month, with adjustments for shorter sessions.
– Ministries/Departments are required to compile rosters of ‘Operational Staff’ eligible for Overtime Allowance without any upward adjustment in rates. Biometric attendance may be implemented for streamlined procedures and transparency in scheduling overtime work.
– To support female employees with disabilities, a special allowance of Rs 3,000 per month will be provided, especially for those with young children or children with disabilities, from the birth of the child until the child reaches two years of age.
These revisions aim to enhance the overall welfare and support for central government employees and pensioners under the 7th Pay Commission dispensation.
