Elon Musk, the renowned business magnate and CEO of Tesla, has developed a new venture aiming to focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI). This venture raised eyebrows as the entrepreneur had only recently called for tech companies to pause the development of AI for at least 6 months. Despite this, Musk is still determined to challenge the firm behind ChatGPT, OpenAI.
Incorporated on March 9, Musk’s new firm X.AI Corp has Nevada business records that list him as the sole director. Meanwhile, conspiracy analysts expect that the billionaire may release further information about his AI-focused business soon. Investors have already been in contact in regards to infusing money into his next ambitious project.
In the past months, Musk has been known to take a break from his other projects such as SpaceX, Tesla, Twitter, and Neuralink. Although it appears Musk is not aiming to deviate from his core focus, given the kind of success he has seen in the AI industry, it is not surprising to see him jumping on the bandwagon.
Not only will the entrepreneur challenge OpenAI with the chatbot product, but he also recently purchased 10,000 GPUs from tech supplier Nvidia. These graphics processing units are just what Musk needs to power the new engine he is constructing. With the launch of a new AI-focused business, he could put more money into Twitter, which has been a highly unsuccessful purchase for the business magnate.
Musk is not the only one who is trying to make his way in AI. Many big tech companies have already taken the step such as Google and Microsoft, with the development of their own AI bots such as Bard and Bing AI respectively.
On the regulatory end, despite ChatGPT’s significant popularity, companies are facing several challenges. The European privacy watchdog has set up a committee to tackle the same and recently, Italy revoked their ban of chatbot tech, specifically ChatGPT, due to privacy concerns.
Looking at these developments, it will be interesting to see what Elon Musk can do to make a mark in the AI space. Despite the challenge, Musk is admired for his ambition and unwavering determination, so it will be compelling to witness this new venture from the tech titan.
