Recently, Peter Diamandis, a professional in the fields of marketing, engineering, and medicine, spoke at a conference regarding the potential of AI and predicted that by the end of the decade, companies that utilize AI will be the most successful ones. This prompted my research into how AI can be beneficial for small businesses.
In order to learn more about AI and to gain an understanding of the potential applications for small businesses, I created an account in ChatGPT. With its capability of rapidly generating content, I asked it to write a 500-word column that mentions the advantages of AI for small companies.
Initially, the artificially generated column was interesting in the sense that it highlighted points related to AI. Unfortunately, the text lacked any emotion or excitement. My first impression was that I had to make sure the content reads naturally, with a conversational tone.
AI can be used by small businesses in various ways, namely automation, customer service, predictive analytics and inventory management. Automation is useful for tasks that are repetitive and time consuming, such as data entry. AI-powered chatbots are great for responding to customer enquiries, thus freeing up the customer service representatives. Lastly, analyzing customer data through AI can enable personalised promotions and allow businesses to better forecast their profits.
However, the human touch is still required to guarantee that the writing meets the desired quality. ChatGPT can help writers generate factual and accurate information quickly, but its “boring” output necessitates further work and input from the writer.
