CAG Reviews SAI20 Goa Summit Prep for India’s G20 Presidency

The Comptroller Auditor General’s (CAG) team from India is visiting Goa to review the preparations for the upcoming SAI20 meet scheduled for mid-June as part of India’s G20 Presidency. The SAI20 meet is of supreme audit institutions (group of audit organizations from G20 countries), which seeks to bring forth good governance, transparency and accountability. This even is due to be held between June 12 to 14, 2023.

The visit of the CAG team has been confirmed by a Goa state secretariat official, although the entire delegation is estimated to stay until Saturday. During their visit, the CAG team will inspect different hotels, airports and other conference locations to check for preparations for the SAI20 summit. This summit will focus on relevant topics like blue economy, responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the likes.

The first senior officials meeting for the SAI20 members and the World Bank was conducted in Guwahati during March. The SAI20 meet during the G20 summit will be chaired by Indian Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) Girish Chandra Murmu, a rare opportunity which allows India to display its leadership by promoting good governance, efficiency and ethicality in the public sector.

This upcoming G20 Summit holds great importance as Japan will become G20 presidency for the year 2023. Japan is making preparations to ensure that the summit reflects the inclusive nature, integrity and significance of the community, worldwide. It has proposed to plant 20 lakh flowering saplings across Delhi in preparation for the summit, reflecting the prime importance given to the environment and nature.

Organizer Sanjit Rodrigues (Secret Protocol and Nodal Officer of G20, Goa) chaired a meeting with the CAG team led by Vishal Desai (Director Personnel) on Thursday and further discussed the process of ensuring the G20 Summit to be conducted seamlessly in Goa. This meeting was an important step that showed how purposeful Goa has been and is in preparation for the magnus event.
