ByteDance denied the reports of offering a $1.4 million salary to OpenAI’s ChatGPT R&D team. The chatbot’s technological excellence has caught the attention of several notable firms such as Alibaba, Tencent Cloud and many others. Although ByteDance has not unveiled substantial models yet, they have apparently delved into the realms of image and language modalities.
On April 18, the ByteDance subsidiary, Volcano Engine released an upgraded version of the all-pervasive machine learning platform. This new model ranges up to three times better than the parent generation and is equipped with computing abilities and technical services. Unlike regular cloud suppliers, Volcano Engine is ready to render these facilities for various large-scale model proprietors.
Founded in 2012, ByteDance is a tech corporation that specializes in content recommendation systems and customized products. It is headquartered in Beijing and operates mainly in the Chinese market. ByteDance is immensely known for their technology platforms such as Dongdang, which is the parent company of TikTok. The Chief Scientist at ByteDance, Zhang Tao leads the company’s AI and machine learning research team. He has a Ph.D. from Columbia University and had worked as a senior researcher at Microsoft Research Asia before joining ByteDance. Dr. Tao was among those who formed the AI Research Team for ByteDance in early 2016 and has been a significant influence in their projects. He has published over 30 research papers and holds multiple patents in the field of AI. He was also ranked in the top 10 most cited authors in natural language processing by a report published in 2018. He is currently working with the team to develop AI techniques that can highly benefit the product ideas of ByteDance.
