The 1st International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence kicked off in Burgas with great enthusiasm. The event, spearheaded by Bulgarian Education and Science Minister Galin Tsokov and Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov, aims to bring together some of the brightest minds in the AI and STEM fields.
Minister Tsokov expressed his pride in Bulgaria pioneering this international competition, emphasizing its significance for the future of mankind. He commended the organizers, jury, and hosts while wishing all participants a rewarding experience filled with valuable knowledge and new friendships.
This weeklong Olympiad will see nearly 200 students from 44 teams representing over 40 countries compete, with Bulgaria fielding two teams as the host nation. The event has garnered support from international scientists, including those from prestigious universities, as well as sponsorship from various institutions, NGOs, and companies worldwide, with Google serving as a general sponsor.
The competition’s primary goal is to challenge participants to think critically, expand their theoretical and practical knowledge, and explore the vast opportunities within the realm of artificial intelligence. By addressing current issues in the field, the Olympiad aims to raise awareness and foster innovation among the next generation of AI enthusiasts.
Among the distinguished guests at the opening ceremony were National Assembly Education and Science Committee Chair Silvi Kirilov, Members of Parliament, Burgas Regional Governor Maria Neykova, and renowned singer Maria Ilieva. The event promises to be a platform for knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and skill development, setting the stage for future advancements in artificial intelligence on a global scale.
