Brazil President Bolsonaro Faces Up to 12 Years in Jail for Alleged Vaccine Fraud

Former Brazilian President Bolsonaro INDICTED for allegedly faking COVID-19 vaccination status, even though the vaccines themselves are fake

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is facing serious legal trouble as he has been indicted for allegedly faking his COVID-19 vaccination status. The indictment, filed by police detective Fabio Alvarez Shor, accuses Bolsonaro of asking for erroneous data to be inserted into Brazil’s vaccination system for himself and more than a dozen others, including his daughter.

According to Detective Shor, an aide-de-camp to Bolsonaro confessed to delivering the vaccination certificates personally to the president around the time of his trip to the U.S. in December 2022, where vaccination was required for entry. The possible consequence of this indictment could see Bolsonaro facing up to 12 years behind bars, with the final decision resting with the Brazilian Prosecutor General.

Bolsonaro’s attorney, Fabio Wajngarten, has vehemently denied the allegations, calling the indictment absurd and arguing that his client did not have access to the vaccination system. Bolsonaro himself has previously denied any wrongdoing during questioning in May 2023.

The former president’s tenure was marked by his strong opposition to vaccine mandates and lockdown measures during the COVID-19 pandemic. He notably contracted the virus in July 2020 but recovered, subsequently building up natural immunity and refusing to be vaccinated. Bolsonaro’s stance against vaccine passports has also been clear, emphasizing personal freedom in making vaccination decisions.

Despite the controversies surrounding him, Bolsonaro enjoyed a significant political following and won the 2018 election. However, his loss in the October 2022 presidential election marked the end of his tenure. The ongoing investigations and legal battles now cast a shadow on his legacy, as the Brazilian justice system deliberates on his alleged involvement in faking COVID-19 vaccination records.
