The line between ChatGPT and Bing Chat is blurring as Microsoft and OpenAI continue to invest in their respective chatbot systems. ChatGPT drew the attention of tech enthusiasts when it was first released, and Microsoft has since joined forces with its developer OpenAI to develop and improve its own Bing Chat platform. Recently, both chatbot systems have taken similar steps, increasing the similarities between the two and making them even more compatible.
Microsoft unveiled third-party plugins for Bing Chat earlier this May, aiming to allow users to do more than just simple web searches. Like ChatGPT, they were designed to enable users to perform applications like researching restaurants in the area and then booking reservations through OpenTable. Additionally, Microsoft and OpenAI declared that the AI plugins of ChatGPT could be used in Bing Chat similarly and vice versa. Essentially, this means that both platforms will be able to share the same library of plugins.
But that’s not the only similarity between the two chatbots. Microsoft recently announced that Bing is the new default search engine for ChatGPT, further reducing the gap that has previously existed between the two systems. On top of that, users are able to turn Bing search off in ChatGPT to keep returning results solely based on the chatbot’s learning model. The ability to access more sources of data and information through the web provides ChatGPT with more reliable results.
