Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, is facing a reported AI-powered disinformation campaign from ChatGPT. According to Patrick Hillmann, Binance’s Chief Strategy Officer, when the exchange attempted to replicate the conversation with a series of queries, this was unfruitful until they directly referred to the state-run petroleum corporation. Then the AI program provided false information, stating founder Changpeng Zhao had a hand in creating the social media platform for the China National Petroleum Corp. while he was still in secondary school.
Binance has refuted these claims, stating that this information was absolutely preposterous. This is the latest concerning news with regards to the exchange, which has been embroiled in controversy over its alleged ties to the Chinese Communist Party which have been denied by the exchange numerous times in the past.
