Bill Gates Calls Out Startup With AI App That Could Become Future’s Biggest Winner

Date:

Bill Gates recently suggested that big changes are about to come to the way we interact with technology, and that an up-and-coming startup may be the one to win the AI race. In particular, Gates was impressed with the AI studio Inflection and their personal AI, called Pi. By creating an AI that users can interact with, Inflection is aiming to give people something that goes beyond just a search bar.

At an event in San Francisco, Gates commented that he would be disappointed if Microsoft were not to come out as a leader in the AI sector. To find out more about Inflection and the AI they have created, my colleagues and I have been trying out the Pi app. By conversing with the AI ourselves, Pie has been able to provide insights on topics from loneliness to de-dollarization. Our conversations with the AI were surprisingly helpful and often felt like a real conversation.

We found that Pi has the potential to have long-term conversations and stay with the user as the subject evolves. Spriha Srivistava, for example, had a discussion with Pi about the challenges of de-dollarization, to which Pi responded with an in-depth assessment of the situation. Brad Davis has also had fruitful conversations with the AI about the joys of serendipity when flipping through printed books.

Pi is still a long way from becoming the AI that Bill Gates speaks of, but it’s rapidly getting there. It’s available on Instagram, Whatsapp, and through its own app and is providing services that go beyond just simple voice commands.

Inflection is a startup founded by LinkedIn cofounder Reid Hoffman, Deepmind cofounder Mustafa Suleyman, and Karén Simonyan. It was founded with the goal of creating an AI for everyone that can act as a personal assistant. The company is crafting an AI that can understand conversations and provide dedicated services for users. Through Pi, the company has made strides toward becoming the go-to AI, disrupting the industry as we know it.

Bill Gates has caught wind of Inflection’s work and become impressed with the AI. He believes Inflection’s work is enough to put them in the running for the top AI position and has left us with a lasting impression of the startup.
