European startup Versed is aiming to democratize video game development with its generative AI tool that allows anyone to create their own role-playing game (RPG) simply by writing text-based stories. Versed uses its AI to interpret the narrative and assign characters and locations from an in-house database to create immersive worlds. The system uses a combination of LLMs and proprietary algorithms to match assets and generate worlds, and relies on the Unity game engine for gameplay. Versed is working with 10 creators as part of an early-alpha program, with a full public launch slated for the second half of 2024. The startup has raised €1.6 ($1.7m) in a pre-seed funding round led by Google’s Gradient Ventures, with participation from Cherry Ventures, and angels hailing from companies including Unity, Twitch, Remote and Framer.
