Axel Springer Partners with OpenAI to Provide Global News Summaries via ChatGPT, Germany

Date:

OpenAI has announced a partnership with German media group Axel Springer, in which OpenAI will pay Axel Springer to include its journalism in responses generated by the popular chatbot ChatGPT. Under the agreement, users of ChatGPT will receive summaries of selected global news content from Axel Springer’s media brands, including Politico and Bild. The chatbot’s responses will offer links to the full articles for transparency and further information. Axel Springer will be compensated for making its content available to OpenAI. The deal is non-exclusive, allowing both parties to enter into additional agreements. Axel Springer’s CEO, Matthias Doepfner, stated that the partnership aims to explore the opportunities of AI in journalism and bring quality, societal relevance, and a new business model to the field. OpenAI’s COO, Brad Lightcap, added that the collaboration will provide people with new ways to access real-time news content through AI tools. The use of AI in chatbots has raised concerns about the spread of false or offensive material, but the partnership between OpenAI and Axel Springer aims to harness the potential of AI-driven journalism while maintaining accuracy and quality.
