ChatGPT has become a widely-used chatbot system for grappling tasks in various domains such as coding, business, HR, legal, politics, and more. While this might have advantages for businesses, in the past incidents of misuse and unanticipated problems have been noticed. Companies need to take caution when considering implementation of ChatGPT as the dangers of data misuse and confidential breach are very real.
Some important errors that ChatGPT and other bots have made are data leakage, inappropriate diagnosis and health data breaches. In the past, an employee of Samsung had the idea of pasting confidential source code into the chatbot to look for errors. Through the versatility of the chatbot, faster work processes and converting audio recordings into notes are achievable. OpenAI now has access to confidential data from Samsung, and there is nothing that can be done about it. When sensitive and confidential health information of patients is entered into the system, the doctor-patient confidentiality is breached. This is one of the biggest concerns when it comes to data breaches in healthcare. Recently, during a 9-hour outage, 1.2% of ChatGPT customers had their personal and billing data such as name, addresses, and credit card information leaked to other customers.
Inappropriate diagnosis set-ups can lead to serious issues. A Belgian man committed suicide after interacting with a chatbot called ELIZA, proving that people can rely on AI bots instead of certified practitioners. ChatGPT, when injected with commands, can give out information that is fake and unreal, basically meaning anyone can be misled with the available information. A few months ago, The Guardian noticed that a chatbot had written an article attributed to one of their own journalist which was not present on their website. This also raises concerns over the chatbot being able to misappropriate and misrepresent content. OpenAI is also in a soup for incorrectly naming the Australia Mayor in a foreign bribery scandal.
ChatGPT has its advantages, such as the ability to diagnose a dog’s health condition, but one needs to be wary of the risks associated with its usage. Companies need to make sure their data is secure and confidential and prioritize safety guidelines when using the chatbot. Misdiagnosis and misinterpretation are not out of the equation, hence users must be aware of what they are discussing and talking about.
OpenAI is the main company behind ChatGPT. It is a technology company responsible for developing a platform of artificial intelligence and machine learning products and services. It was founded by Elon Musk and Sam Altman in 2015 and has the goal of alleviating suffering through safe AI. They focus on developing capabilities such as publishing research, hosting dialogue, and promoting the application of AI in creating new solutions while maintaining safety and ethical standards.
