Automox, a leading provider of endpoint device management solutions, is revolutionizing the way automation scripts are created with the help of generative AI technology. By incorporating artificial intelligence capabilities into its platform, Automox enables users to develop automation scripts using natural language, making the process more accessible and efficient.
The service offered by Automox allows users to store and execute scripts that perform various systems management tasks, including application and patch installations, operating system upgrades, reboots, and feature enablement or disabling. In an industry facing a skills shortage, Automox aims to address the challenges that IT organizations will encounter in the next 12 months, ensuring they can overcome obstacles efficiently.
The automation scripts, known as Worklets, are written in Microsoft PowerShell for Windows clients and Bash for macOS and Linux. These scripts work in conjunction with an agent installed on the endpoint. Now, with the addition of Otto AI capabilities, users can simply express their requirements in plain English, and the corresponding scripts will be generated by OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Automox CEO Tim Lucas explains that customers who may not possess the expertise or confidence to write their own scripts can provide a detailed request to Otto AI, which will create the script on their behalf. While some tailoring may be required, the generated scripts eliminate 80% to 90% of the work, saving users significant time and effort.
To further assist users, Automox offers a secure repository for Worklets and a library of nearly 300 scripts crafted by experienced IT professionals. Additionally, customers have the opportunity to create and share their own scripts within the Automox community. The company maintains robust testing, commenting, and auditing practices, ensuring transparency and allowing customers to adapt scripts to their unique device configurations and policies.
The ultimate objective of Otto AI is to minimize research and writing time, giving users a head start and a near-finished draft. With zero need to train the bot in writing PowerShell or Bash code, Automox trained ChatGPT to align with its internal practices, including the art of script commenting.
Since its establishment in 2015, Automox has secured $152 million in funding and boasts a customer base of approximately 3,000 organizations. While most clients are small to medium-sized businesses, Automox also serves several large enterprises, ranging from those with hundreds of thousands of endpoints to those with just 200.
Otto AI is set to become generally available later this summer, with a small additional cost, according to Lucas. By harnessing the power of generative AI, Automox continues to empower organizations with greater accessibility and efficiency in managing their endpoint devices, ultimately enhancing productivity and operational performance.
