Artifact, a news mobile application that was just launched by the co-founders of Instagram, announced recently that they are introducing an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven feature that could be used to summarize articles. This summarizing feature will be adjustable to various tones; one of which is the ever-entertaining “Explain Like I’m Five” (ELI5) option. To access the feature, all a user has to do is tap the “Aa” icon atop the screen and then click “summarize.” After some time, the summary which is contained in a black box will appear. One can further customize the summarizing tone by clicking on the three dots menu that’s within the said box and pick from options like “Poem” and “Gen Z.”
One could put this feature to the test with author’s own review of a game called Horizon Forbidden West: Forbidden Shores. The author mentioned that the summarization goes quite decently as far as the five tones were concerned. “Explain Like I’m Five” was particularly appreciated for being blunt and efficient. The “Poem” tone, however wasn’t as accurate but it still managed to give a kick of humor. Nonetheless, the summarizing feature urges readers to read the full article to get an absolute grasp of the context.
Artifact is an application designed to keep its customers entertained. It was founded by Mike Krieger and Kevin Systrom, the co-founders of Instagram. With its latest AI-driven summarizing feature, they are aiming to make it more user-friendly and efficient. Even though they know that AI can make miscalculations, they believe that giving users the option to summarize in five various tones is certainly an advantage compared to the similarities in other apps.
