Apple’s head of artificial intelligence and machine learning, Ali Farhadi, has left the tech giant to become CEO of the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI2), a non-profit organization that is dedicated to ensuring AI aligns with human values and works for the common good. Farhadi, who joined Apple in 2020 after selling his AI startup Xnor.ai to the company for an estimated $200m, led several machine learning teams working on projects such as Siri, Core ML, and Neural Engine. The non-profit AI2, founded in 2014 by late Microsoft co-founder Paul G Allen, has over 200 researchers and engineers with a focus ranging from natural language processing to robotics.
