Apple is gearing up to expand its iPad lineup with new OLED display technology in the coming years, according to a recent forecast by research firm Omdia. The iPad Air is expected to be the next model to adopt OLED technology in 2028, following the transition of the iPad Pro.
Omdia researcher Kang Min-soo shared this update at the 2024 Korea Display Conference, revealing that the iPad Air will utilize OLED technology, with the iPad Pro incorporating a two-stack tandem OLED. This design offers enhanced brightness levels, reduced power consumption, and an extended display lifespan compared to the current single-stack OLED used in iPhones.
The research firm had previously predicted the launch of OLED displays for the iPad mini and iPad Air in 2026 but is now considering the possibility of a foldable OLED device that could replace the smaller iPad model. This aligns with reports suggesting Apple’s exploration of a foldable device launch between 2026 and 2027.
Apple is set to unveil its next-generation OLED iPad Pro models soon, featuring a thinner design, an M3 chip, improved cameras, MagSafe wireless charging, and a redesigned Magic Keyboard accessory. Alongside these models, non-OLED versions of the iPad Air in 10.9 and 12.9-inch sizes are also in the works for a potential release in late March.
With Apple’s continued investment in OLED technology for its tablets, consumers can anticipate improved display quality, power efficiency, and potentially innovative form factors in the future. Stay tuned for more updates on Apple’s OLED iPad lineup and upcoming product launches.
