Apple CEO’s Concerns About AI Future and ChatGPT Bot Revealed

Date:

Apple CEO, Tim Cook, has expressed concerns over the potential problems and societal impact caused by the progression of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. Speaking just a day after Apple debuted its latest range of AI-driven products at the Worldwide Developers Conference, Cook acknowledged that products like ChatGPT offer great promise with their machine learning capabilities. But he also warned of the potential negative societal consequences of AI usage such as social biases and misinformation. Cook stated that AI was so powerful that companies have a responsibility to employ their ethical judgement, indicating that it is vital for companies to regulate themselves. While several major players in the field, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, have called on the need to mitigate the risks of AI, Cook acknowledged that Apple’s new technology was powered by machine learning and was not carrying the AI label.
In another development from Apple, the newly released iOS17 for mobile interfaces will only be available to iPhone XS and newer devices. With this update, owners of iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X will not be able to download the new software, while some features will only be available to owners of an iPhone 12 or newer devices, including gesture-based FaceTime reactions with augmented reality effects and autocorrect improvements. The update highlights the fast-moving nature of the mobile phone market, where devices that are just two to three years old are becoming outdated, while manufacturers are producing newer models with innovative features that require the latest software updates.
