AMD’s latest Ryzen chips are making waves in the tech industry as they outshine the Snapdragon X Elite in AI capabilities, signaling a new era in Windows laptops. Microsoft previously partnered with Qualcomm for the first generation of Copilot+ PCs, but AMD’s new Ryzen AI 300 series now takes the lead in AI processing power.
The Snapdragon X Elite boasts an impressive 45 TOPS, setting a high standard for AI performance. However, AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 series raises the bar with 50 TOPS, surpassing the Snapdragon X Elite and meeting the requirements for Copilot+ PCs, including Microsoft’s additional features like Recall.
These groundbreaking Ryzen chips are built on AMD’s new Zen 5 architecture, focusing primarily on enhancing AI capabilities in laptops. The processors promise up to 12 high-performance CPU cores with 24 threads and a 50% increase in on-chip L3 cache memory compared to the previous generation.
The AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 features a 10-core design with a boost clock speed of 5.0GHz, while the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 ups the ante with a 12-core configuration and a boost clock speed of 5.1GHz. For desktop users, the Ryzen 9 9950X offers a powerful 16-core chip with a boost clock speed of 5.7GHz.
Asus has already announced the upcoming Zenbook S 16, which will be powered by the Ryzen AI chips and positioned as one of the first AMD-driven Copilot+ PCs. The laptop is set to launch in July, with pre-orders available starting at $1,399 and featuring the Ryzen 9 AI 365 chip paired with 24GB of RAM.
Other leading laptop manufacturers like HP, Lenovo, MSI, and Asus (including ROG) are also gearing up to integrate the new Ryzen AI chips into their upcoming models, showcasing the industry-wide adoption of AMD’s cutting-edge technology.
