Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has released its new, high-end professional AMD Radeon Pro graphics cards for creators and professionals to meet the demands of their extreme workloads. The Santa Clara, California-based chipmaker designed their cards with RDNA 3 architecture and AMD’s brand-new chiplets design, boosting their performance and providing them with up to three times greater data rate than AMD Radeon RX 7900 graphics cards released in December, and the first pro graphics cards to use the technology.
The AMD Radeon PRO W7000 Series is capable of tackling heavy workloads, making it a top choice for creators with high-polygon count models that requires image fidelity, color accuracy and is able to run graphics and compute-based applications at once. It also offers AMD’s Radiance Display Engine with DisplayPort 2.1 that provides higher resolution and more available colors than ever.
The PRO W7900, AMD’s top-tier model, is the most powerful it has ever made and features 61 TFLOPS (FP32) peak single precision performance and 48GB of GDDR6 memory, 1.5 times the memory capacity of the previous-generation graphics card. PRO W7800, designed to take on heavy workloads, offers a peak single precision performance of 45 TFLOPS (FP32) and 32GB of GDDR6 memory. According to Scott Herkelman, senior vice president and general manager of the graphics business unit at AMD, both of the graphics cards are designed to provide exceptional performance and value to professionals, making it easier for them to tackle larger projects, render faster and create more complex models.
Jimmy Holbert, director of Radeon creator and workstation strategy at Radeon Technologies Group at AMD, added that this technology helps future-proof their customer’s professionalism, noting that their cards also use the new AMD RDNA 3 architecture with compute units capable of sharing resources between rendering, AI, and raytracing to deliver more performance per transistor. Additionally, it features dual encode/decode media engines with full AV1 encode/decode support, higher resolution, wide color gamut and high-dynamic range enhancements.
Gary Davis, senior GTM manager at Radeon Technologies Group at AMD, shared in a press briefing that the line between high-end professional editors and other creators is blurring with the popularity of streaming, stressing the importance of providing more performance per dollar with their product.
The AMD Radeon PRO W7900 costs $4,000 and the PRO W7800 costs $2,500. They will be available from leading etailers/retailers starting in Q2, 2023. Plus, theyare expected to show off their graphics cards at the NAB Show 2023 in Las Vegas.
