Amazon has increased its investment in the AI company Anthropic to a whopping $4 billion, with an additional $2.75 billion injection announced recently. This brings the total amount invested in the company to $4 billion, following a previous investment of $1.25 billion last year.
As part of this deal, Amazon now holds a minority stake in Anthropic, giving it the opportunity to influence the company’s strategic direction. Additionally, Amazon will be offering Anthropic’s models on Amazon Bedrock, an AWS fully-managed service that enables developers to incorporate generative AI features into their applications and services.
An important aspect of this agreement is that Anthropic will utilize Amazon’s Trainium and Inferentia chips to train and deploy its models on the AWS Cloud. Collaborating with Amazon on the development of these technologies, Anthropic will work towards enhancing the efficiency and performance of generative AI applications.
Dr. Swami Sivasubramanian, AWS’s vice president of Data and AI, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, emphasizing the potential for innovative generative AI applications powered by Anthropic’s cutting-edge models and Amazon’s state-of-the-art infrastructure.
The closer partnership between Anthropic and Amazon signifies a strategic move towards enhancing the security and sustainability of AI startups in the evolving technological landscape. By leveraging the resources and expertise of industry giants like Amazon, startups like Anthropic can accelerate their growth and development in the fast-paced world of artificial intelligence.
