Amazon is reportedly in the process of developing a new AI chatbot that is anticipated to be introduced in September. The chatbot, codenamed ‘Metis,’ is said to be constructed with the use of a more powerful internal ‘Olympus’ model, surpassing the capabilities of its existing Titan AI model.
The company is already recognized for its Q AI chatbot tailored for enterprise clients. Additionally, Amazon is working on a paid version of Alexa featuring generative AI functionalities, known internally as Remarkable Alexa, with a potential monthly price tag of $5. The latest report from Business Insider suggests that Amazon is drawing from the advancements in Remarkable Alexa to create the new Metis AI chatbot.
It has been revealed that Amazon CEO Andy Jassy is actively engaged in the Metis development process, indicating the significance of this new venture for the company. The chatbot is expected to offer conversational responses, link to relevant sources, and provide image generation capabilities similar to other AI chatbots. Furthermore, Metis might utilize retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) technology, enabling it to deliver more current responses compared to its competitors.
Moreover, Metis is envisioned to function as an AI agent, capable of executing complex tasks like flight bookings or vacation planning. Despite potential similarities with Alexa, the report highlights that Amazon’s digital assistant does not currently have a web interface.
