Amazon CEO Announces Plans to Create More Advanced Alexa-Operated Language Model

Date:

Amazon is set to make completely new strides in the field of AI with the development of a new, more comprehensive and efficient “large language model” to power their Alexa device. In the company’s first-quarter earnings call, CEO Andy Jassy went into detailed explanation about the efforts behind making Alexa a more reliable personal assistant. This comes off the heels of other popular AI tools like ChatGPT, Microsoft 365 Copilot and even Toyota phasing out its Alexa integration due to stagnation.

Jassy believes that the advancement of AI, along with the aid of its large language model, will ultimately turn Alexa into the “world’s best personal assistant”. Additionally, Amazon has been heavily investing in the chips that are specifically designed for such language models, such as “Trainium” for training and “Inferentia” for inference. In terms of giving clients more options, Amazon recently launched the “Bedrock” service, wherein customers can customize foundational models while needing a secure and private way to do so.

As one of the few major companies investing financial resources in large language models, Amazon stands to potentially achieve great success. With everyone keeping their eyes on the new development, Alexa users may soon be able to complete a wider range of tasks with their devices.

Amazon is one of the most recognized technology companies in the world. Founded in 1994, the company primarily focuses on e-commerce, digital streaming, and artificial intelligence. With the creation of its virtual assistant, Alexa, Amazon has become one of the biggest players in the AI market. It has also grown to dominate the cloud computing market, holding a large share of the sector.
