Mistral AI, Europe’s strong competitor to OpenAI, has just integrated its latest and most advanced Large Language Model (LLM) called Mistral Large into Amazon Bedrock. This move will bring Mistral’s cutting-edge reasoning capabilities to Amazon’s platform, enhancing the tech giant’s generative AI applications.
Released in February, Mistral Large boasts top-tier capabilities in various domains such as code, text, and mathematics. Fluent in five languages including English, French, German, Spanish, and Italian, Mistral Large is a versatile model designed to handle a wide range of tasks.
This integration comes shortly after Mistral added Mistral 7B and Mixtral 8x7B to Amazon Bedrock last month, positioning Mistral’s LLMs alongside models from prominent players like Meta, Anthropic, and Stability AI.
Customers in France, as well as the North Virginia and Oregon regions in the US, can now access Mistral’s three models on Amazon Bedrock. In a statement, Mistral AI’s CEO, Arthur Mensch, expressed the company’s commitment to making frontier AI widely accessible by collaborating with leading cloud providers such as Amazon.
As part of the partnership, Mistral will leverage Amazon’s Trainium and Inferentia AI chips for future foundational models on Bedrock. This strategic move strengthens Mistral’s position in the global AI landscape, highlighting the growing prominence of the European LLM ecosystem.
Established just a year ago, Mistral AI has experienced remarkable growth, securing a record-breaking €105mn seed round in Europe last June and achieving unicorn status with a €450mn investment in December. Together with Aleph Alpha from Germany and Silo AI based in Helsinki, Mistral is at the forefront of developing advanced LLMs in Europe.
Setting themselves apart from their US counterparts, these European companies offer their models as open-source tools, paving the way for decentralized and community-driven AI development. By collaborating with industry leaders like Amazon and Microsoft, Mistral AI aims to drive innovation and democratize access to cutting-edge AI technology on a global scale.
