Alphabet Unveils Advanced AI Model Gemini Revolutionizing Information Processing

Date:

Alphabet, Google’s parent company, has made a grand entrance into the AI market with its latest cutting-edge artificial intelligence model called Gemini. This innovative AI model is designed to extract information from various sources such as video, audio, and text, providing a sophisticated level of reasoning that includes an understanding of nuance.

Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai expressed his enthusiasm for this new era of AI models, stating that it represents one of the company’s most significant science and engineering endeavors. With Gemini, Google aims to take on competitors like Microsoft’s ChatGPT by OpenAI, which was launched about a year ago.

Google’s plan involves integrating some of Gemini’s technology into its AI assistant Bard, with the most advanced version of Gemini set to be released through Bard in 2024. Alphabet has disclosed that there will be three versions of Gemini, each using a different processing power. The most powerful iteration will be run in data centers, while a less resource-intensive version will be suitable for mobile devices.

Eli Collins, Vice President of Product at Google DeepMind AI unit, hailed Gemini as the biggest AI model created by the company so far. He emphasized that it not only offers enhanced capabilities but is also far more efficient, making it a cost-effective solution for consumers and clients.

However, the development of Gemini does come with a significant challenge – it requires a considerable amount of computing power for training. Collins assured that they are already working on improving the training process to minimize the resource demands.

As part of the announcement, Alphabet revealed the development of a new generation of custom-built AI chips, known as tensor processing units (TPUs). The Cloud TPU v5p, designed to train large AI models, is composed of pods with 8,960 chips stitched together.
