Al Wusta Governorate to Invest RO6mn in Development and Tourism Projects
The Governorate of Al Wusta in Oman is gearing up to invest approximately RO6mn in various projects that aim to address the immediate needs of its residents and bolster the tourism sector. With its strategic geographical location and its status as a hub for investments in energy and minerals, Al Wusta is becoming an attractive destination for global investors. It is also home to the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD), which further solidifies its position as an investment hotspot.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Muslim Jaddad al Kathiri, the Governor of Al Wusta, outlined the developmental projects that will enhance services, entertainment, and tourism in the region. Some of the key projects include the Sawqra waterfront in Al Jazir, the Al Lakbi waterfront in Ras Madrakah in Duqm, and the Shannah waterfront in Mahout. The focus is also on enhancing the green cover of the region with the development of several gardens and parks in all wilayats. In addition, several economic projects are currently being studied and will be announced in the near future.
Moreover, Al Wusta is undertaking extensive internal road paving projects across various wilayats, spanning an estimated 48km. The development of service stations in the wilayats of Mahout and Duqm, as well as improvements in the Rima area of Al Jazir, are among the other significant undertakings. Recognizing the vital role of SEZAD in Oman’s economic growth, the Governor’s Office is collaborating with regional authorities to meet development goals and attract investments for various sectors including health, education, tourism, infrastructure, and social services, with a focus on job creation and training.
To promote tourism investment in the region, a forum is being planned to bring together stakeholders and present available opportunities, establish projects that enhance tourist sites, and organize events and recreational activities, Sheikh Kathiri revealed.
Dr. Salem bin Salim al Junaibi, the head of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s branch in Al Wusta, emphasized the governorate’s emergence as a top investment destination with robust infrastructure that includes an airport, ports, road networks, power stations, communication networks, and extensive security and government services. He highlighted the diverse range of projects across sectors such as logistics, petrochemicals, electricity, gas, oil storage, refining, real estate, tourism, trade, entertainment, fish farming, green hydrogen projects, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy production.
The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Al Wusta is actively working to create a business-friendly environment and implement economic programs that promote the governorate’s potential and attract investment.
The developments and investments in Al Wusta represent significant strides in Oman’s efforts to enhance local and business development, as well as expand its tourism sector in alignment with Oman Vision 2040.
