Stack AI, a startup founded by Antoni Rosinol and Bernardo Aceituno, former PhD students at MIT, is revolutionizing the way companies build AI-driven workflows. The duo identified a gap in the market for simplifying the process of integrating data and models for those lacking expertise in the field.
After completing their degrees and relocating to San Francisco, they joined Y Combinator’s Winter 23 cohort and launched Stack. Their platform offers a low-code workflow automation tool aimed at assisting businesses in creating AI-powered workflows like chatbots and AI assistants. With a focus on connecting data sources and large language models (LLMs), Stack enables users to streamline workflow automations with ease.
Although Stack has only been operational for six months, they already boast over 200 customers utilizing their product. The company’s approach involves dragging components onto a workflow canvas, which may include data sources like Google Drive and LLMs, among other components. Users can construct generative AI programs without extensive coding knowledge, making the process accessible to a broader audience.
While Stack’s initial customer base is in the healthcare sector, Aceituno emphasizes the importance of human oversight, particularly in sensitive areas involving patient care. By incorporating source citations in every answer provided by their AI assistants, healthcare professionals can verify the information’s accuracy before proceeding.
Rosinol credits their Y Combinator experience for helping them refine their business model and understand the practicalities of working with customers. He acknowledges the shift in focus from model training to effectively connecting data sources as the primary challenge faced by businesses utilizing AI technologies.
With a team of six employees and plans to expand their engineering and sales/marketing departments, Stack’s $3 million funding round has set the stage for future growth. Investors such as Gradient Ventures, Beat Ventures, and True Capital, along with others, have shown confidence in Stack’s potential to simplify AI workflows for businesses across industries.
