AI Revolution 2024: Experts Predict LLMs, Stronger Cyber Defense, and Multi-Modal AI

Date:

2023 saw the incredible rise of artificial intelligence (AI), transforming various industries and leaving a lasting impact. As we enter 2024, experts are now predicting the key AI trends that will shape the coming year. Ten IT professionals have shared their insights into how AI will evolve in the next 12 months.

Avi Gruska, senior director of AI at analytics technology firm Sisense, believes that the widespread integration of large language models (LLMs) will be the defining AI trend of 2024. LLMs like ChatGPT are expected to pave the way towards artificial general intelligence (AGI). Gruska emphasizes how this trend will enhance job roles by supporting core skills and creativity, particularly in the field of data analytics.

Phil Venables, CISO of Google Cloud, highlights the importance of AI in strengthening cyber defense. AI has already provided a significant advantage to cyber defenders, enabling them to improve capabilities and better protect against threats. Venables expects these capabilities to surge in 2024 as defenders have the power to direct the technology’s development with specific use cases in mind. However, he also warns that attackers will leverage generative AI and LLMs to personalize and gradually scale their destructive campaigns. Defenders need to respond quickly and efficiently to this challenge.

Rak Garg, a principal at Bain Capital Ventures, predicts that the emergence of multi-modal retrieval architectures and multi-modal inference will be the most important AI trend in 2024. While most AI products in 2023 focused on textual applications inspired by ChatGPT, users now desire software that can meet their needs in various modalities, including voice, video, audio, and code. Garg suggests that if these architectures can work at scale, it could unlock a new category of software that delivers more accurate and human-like results.

Experts urge organizations and individuals to stay informed, adapt, and leverage the capabilities of AI for a smarter future.
